EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE: In 1999, the Asian Pacific Alumni Association of UCLA (APA-UCLA) established the Excellence in Community Service Scholarship to support and honor current UCLA undergraduate students for their commitment in addressing a significant community issue. APA- UCLA realizes the successful development of the Asian Pacific Islander Community is built on the efforts of those who dedicate themselves to advancing thoughtful solutions to critical needs in the community. By acknowledging students for their efforts on behalf of the community, APA-UCLA hopes to foster the spirit of service and to nurture emerging leaders.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Undergraduates who are enrolled as full-time, continuing students at UCLA. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. While the scholarship is open to all students, APA-UCLA strongly encourages students from historically under-represented Asian Pacific American groups to apply.

AWARD: The number of awards varies; award amount is $1,500.00.

REQUIREMENTS: A student enrolled as a full-time undergraduate at UCLA, not in the process of graduating, who demonstrates a commitment to addressing a critical issue in the advancement of the Asian Pacific Islander Community.

Applicants must:

§ Complete an application form and essay
§ Provide a copy of current university transcript
§ Provide a letter of recommendation

SELECTION PROCESS: The APA-UCLA Scholarship Committee will review all applications. Finalists will be invited to an interview; business attire recommended. A Board member will present award recipient with the scholarship at an APA-UCLA event.

TO APPLY: Applications are available at the Asian American Studies Center- 3230 Campbell Hall and the UCLA Alumni Association Office. Applications may also be downloaded from the APA UCLA website at: http://www.uclalumni.net/apa

2) UCLA Gymnastics Tailgate 3/5 (Free lunch & parking)

Spend an afternoon with the students and cheer on our 6th ranked lady Bruins at the gymnastics meet!

Meet at De Neve Plaza at 12PM for lunch with the students. Then journey down to campus for the Women's Gymnastics meet which starts at 2 pm. Parking for alums at the tailgate will be compliments of the Alumni Association.

3) Volunteers Needed: Asian Pacific Legal Center Citizenship Application Workshops

Welcome to another year of volunteering fun! Continuing a proud tradition of serving immigrant communities, APALC will host citizenship application workshops throughout 2006. APALC invites you to join them.

To make our services more accessible to the public in '06, they’re exploring the concept of arranging more of their workshops on weekdays and weeknights.

It's that time again. East West Players Annual Awards Gala is coming up in less than 2 months. In celebration of EWP's 40th year, this year's dinner program with silent auction is glamourous attire encouraged. They're expecting as many as 900 guests, so as many volunteers as possible are welcomed! We're looking for anyone who wants to experience an awesome celebration and to work hard with 100 other great volunteers.
