STEW RICE

By Edward Sakamoto
Directed by James Nakamoto

Beginning in Hawaii during 1957 and ending in 1978, the play centers around three young men and their female counterparts, examining what happens to friendship when time and distance have their way. But more importantly, what happens when someone moves away and can no longer relate to “home.” East West Players 1988 production of STEW RICE was one of the most successful in the theatre’s history.

4) Festival of Philippine Art & Culture – 9/10 & 9/11
---------------------------------------------------------
If there’s one thing attendees flocking to experience the annual Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC) can expect, it’s a mix -- a mix of tastes, languages and generations. Featuring a trademark blend of contemporary and traditional artists, FPAC is one of the most dynamically programmed cultural events in the nation. The 14th edition of this popular community-wide tradition,
the largest of its kind in Southern California, takes place September 10 and 11 at breathtaking Point Fermin, 807 Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro. Aptly themed “Home”, this year’s event brings together over 150 artists, numerous performers, recognizable film, television and radio personalities and artisans in celebration of Southern California’s largest Asian ethnic group.

Amazingly, in its decade and half of existence, FPAC has seen over a quarter of a million attendees enjoy its mission of showcasing the unique arts and diverse cultures of the Filipino Diaspora and no small part of that has been its ability to draw inspiration from a bountiful array of multiple generations.

Los Angeles-based Fil-Am Arts, the Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts, a non-profit, 501 C3 organization aims to present, promote, produce and preserve the rich and diverse arts and culture of the Philippines and Filipino people.

WHEN: Saturday & Sunday
September 10 & 11, 2005
10AM to 6PM

WHERE: Point Fermin Park
807 Paseo Del Mar
San Pedro, CA 90731

ADMISSION: $3.00 per person, per day
